Spurgeon spent his final years wintering in Mentone in southern France where he hoped to find relief from his terrible suffering with rheumatism, gout, and kidney disease. At times his pain was unbearable yet in spite of his agony he pursued his writing. His devoted wife Susannah née Thompson, was unable to accompany him on these medical retreats and stayed behind in England. The Last Sweet Song Of Mr. Spurgeon
Charles Spurgeon, the beloved Prince of Preachers and heir of the Puritans, bestowed his final legacy upon the world with his completion of the “Commentary on Matthew: The Gospel of the Kingdom”. First published in 1893 after his death, Spurgeon’s parting gift to the church has been republished in 2010 by Banner Of Truth Trust .
