Were You There? By God’s Grace, I Was

indeed our co-crucifixion with Christ is the great sanctifying hope of every believer. Christianity isn’t about us pulling ourselves up by our spiritual bootstraps. We do not sanctify ourselves. As Paul reminds us in Romans 6:3, “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we should no longer be slaves to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.” Our hope for living the victorious life is not found in simply remembering Christ’s death, but participating in it! It is Christ’s life in us that is our hope of glory.

The old Gospel hymn asks, “Were you there, when they crucified my Lord?” Indeed, by God’s grace, we were. SEE Straight Up
