As a pastor, I’ve heard people tell me that they - or someone they know - don’t go to a local church because of its problems. Alternatively, there is something they don’t like about it. They wind up “worshiping” at a “home church” with their immediate family. There are a thousand things wrong with this picture, which would take a series of posts to deal with. I’ll let Keller point out how it is essential to get into a church - and to build on his ocean illustration, let me say that a Christian not going to church is like a fish out of water. It’ll only work for awhile. The “ocean” may not be ideal in every spot, but it is the only place for a fish to live and thrive, in a school. (Reformed Reader)
